A century ago, Julia McCrumb Davis welcomed emigrants to Boise after their arduous journey across the high desert. Today, Boise's parks, including the now century-old Julia Davis Park, form a 3,363 acre network that merges recreation and river access within the cultural hub of downtown.
Julia Davis Park: The Second Century
The Julia Davis Park Coalition seeks to update and beautify Boise 's 100 year-old flagship park to the benefit of the more than 1 million people who visit its verdant landscape every year. To that end, our volunteer coalition plans and is working with the City of Boise to build a number of capital improvements to the park - expanding gathering space and learning opportunities, celebrating our shared heritage and envisioning the future. Our plan is to leave a legacy for the future of our community through this project.
Building cconnections . . . developing a new educational resource
As natural gathering places, parks build connections that protect against attacks to our social, emotional and physical well-being. The Second Century of Julia Davis Park will focus on learning and social gathering—a hearkening to a simpler time when fellowship and family were higher priorities and family interaction was inherent in recreational pursuits.
We celebrate the centennial of the park with improvements which will reinvent Julia Davis Park, creating a new amenity which pays tribute to our history, our culture and our natural environment. Julia Davis Park will become even more of a gathering place the more than 1 million visitors who visit the park every year to enjoy open space, meet friends and learn about history, art and nature.
