At the beginning of the 20th century, Boise pioneer Tom Davis donated what became the city’s first public park in memory of his wife Julia.
Today Julia Davis Park - The Second Century volunteers are building a legacy through updates to this 100 year-old regional park.
Improvements are nearly complete, and include the Agriculture Pavilion and Plaza in the center of the park, a Children's Cancer Pavilion in the park's east end, near the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivor's Plaza .
Coming in Spring, 2017: A river-viewing platform, and the Rotary Grand Plaza .
The Julia Davis Park Docent Tour has been awarded a Boise 150 grant by the Boise City Department of Arts & History. Grant recipients are projects that engage people in the city’s 150th anniversary commemoration, "Boise 150," in 2013.
Designed for enthusiasts of local history and those new to Boise, the Julia Davis Park Docent Tours offer visitors an introduction to Boise’s flagship park. During the one-hour walk, which starts at the Idaho State Historical Museum, knowledgeable volunteer docents identify sites and markers of historic significance, revealing why Julia Davis Park is the cultural and historic heart of Boise.
Docent tours are offered free of charge on First Thursdays at 4 p.m., May through September. Tours also will be given during the Boise 150 Celebration on Sunday, July 7, and are available by arrangement.

Announcing: A SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY FOR IDAHO FFA CHAPTERS!
Make your Mark in the Julia Davis Park Agriculture Pavilion. Julia Davis Park is visited by over a million people each year. In 2011, an Agriculture Pavilion was built featuring historical and educational information about agriculture in Idaho with the goal of educating the urban public on the importance of agriculture in our daily lives.
The project has been strongly supported by the agriculture industry in Idaho and now Idaho FFA chapters have the opportunity to contribute to this project in our table top design contest. We are opening a statewide design competition for all FFA chapters to submit artwork to be featured on the tables that will reside permanently in the Agriculture Pavilion.
Winning chapters will have designs etched in aluminum table tops and placed in the Agriculture Pavilion at Julia Davis Park, receive recognition on a sandstone paver in the Julia Davis Park Make Your Mark Plaza, and will be invited to a special event in June.
We will be taking submissions for from January 28 until March 30, 2013. Submissions must incorporate and follow the criteria below:
Incorporate agriculture and education
Focus on historical information
No subjective information (current year statistics)
Focus on something unique to your county or area
Depict through pictures and illustrations (limit words)
For more information contact Kendra Waitley at 208.859.6780 or email
Deadline for submission is March 30, 2013.
