Diagnosed with brain cancer at age 13, Trevor Schaefer is now a Boise State student and the founder of Trevor’s Trek, an annual walk to raise awareness of childhood cancer. He and his mother, Charlie Smith, are also the founders of the Trevor’s Trek Foundation. Together, they have launched a campaign to raise funds for the pavilion.
The stand-alone pavilion will be located next to the future Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivor Plaza near the duck pond in the east end of the park. The Children’s Pavilion will be cantilevered over the water and will be ADA accessible with tables suitable for children and adults. The cost is estimated at $50,000-$65,000.
"The new pavilion will be a tranquil place to provide childhood cancer survivors with inspiration, encouragement and support," he said. "Children are the future, cancer can destroy that."
The foundation has created and is marketing a new fund-raising calendar created in partnership with the Ada County Paramedics. The 18-month calendar features photos of young Idaho cancer survivors with paramedics. The $18 calendar is available at My Father’s Place in McCall, Rembrandt's Coffee House in Eagle, Cool Hand Luke's Steakhouse in Eagle, 15 Albertsons Grocery Store throughout the Treasure Valley and online at www.trevorstrek.org.
